We are pleased to announce that Mr. Yasumasa Nagamine has joined our firm as Of Counsel, beginning July 1, 2024.

Having received his Bachelor’s degree from Tokyo University and joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1977, Of Counsel Nagamine subsequently held key positions with the diplomatic corps of Japan, including Minister of the Embassy of Japan in India, Minister of the Embassy of Japan in the United Kingdom, Deputy Director-General of the North American Affairs Bureau, Deputy Director-General of the Foreign Policy Bureau, Consul General of Japan in San Francisco, Director-General of the International Legal Affairs Bureau, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Senior Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs (Economic), Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of Korea and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. He has thus for many years dealt with diplomatic matters of great significance, including the promotion and management of important bilateral relations, cross-border negotiations, and the settlement of disputes requiring the application of public international law. In mid-career he also engaged in the examining of Government bills submitted to the Diet as Counsellor to the Cabinet Legislation Bureau. Of Counsel Nagamine was appointed to the office of Justice of the Supreme Court of Japan in February, 2021. During his service at the Supreme Court, from which he retired in April, 2024, he has dedicated himself to many cases of national importance brought before the Court and has, in this capacity, made lasting contributions to the formation of new jurisprudence.
