[Important] Watch out for Imposter scams distributed under the name of AMT or AMT lawyers

Sep 8, 2023 Others
There have been constant reports of fraudulent attempts by scammers who impersonate our attorneys to defraud you/your clients out of cryptocurrency, electronic money, and cash. The following are examples of the schemes we have come across. Please keep in mind that AMT and our lawyers have not contacted you, and will never do so, on an unsolicited basis. We urge you to stay alert.

Reported cases include but are not limited to:
・A scheme where the scammer “reveals” to the target that they have become the victim of a cryptocurrency fraud, “explaining” that the fraudster has now been arrested and that they (the target) must now send money equivalent to the value of 10 % of the “lost” assets, which the scammer claims will be needed as a deposit for the court procedures initiated in order to get the money back.

・A scheme where the perpetrator tells the target that they have won a large sum of money in a lottery and requests that the target now sends prepaid card numbers as a deposit payment in order to receive the prize.

・A scheme where the scammer “reveals” to the target that the organizers of a romance fraud group in Singapore have now been arrested, and that the targets, as unwitting victims of the fraud, can recover all their money by providing their personal information to the scammer and/or by making a cryptocurrency remittance to the scammer via an instant messaging application.

・A scheme where a scammer claims that certain crypto-assets of the target have been seized by a court overseas, and requesting that the target deposit money with the court via the scammer in order to recover the assets.
