India

India, with a population exceeding 1 billion, has achieved significant economic development in recent years. India is considered, by Japanese and other multinational companies, to be a stable and highly developed manufacturing base with an attractive domestic market. Our India practice team has accumulated both practical knowledge and broad experience working on Indian-related legal matters, particularly direct investment in India. We have achieved this by working closely with top tier local Indian law firms, including regular secondments of our attorneys to those firms. We have an established "India desk" in our Tokyo Office, staffed by Japanese lawyers with direct work experience at law firms in India. We regularly provide a wide range of expert legal guidance on matters in India, or relating to business in India, including establishment of a local presence, establishment of joint ventures, and M&A matters, by Japanese and other multinational companies, through cooperation with local Indian law firms. We also provide comprehensive corporate legal services and advice to Indian companies investing in Japan; for example, regarding how to establish a local presence or joint venture in Japan, M&A transactions, and compliance with labor and employment and IT outsourcing regulations.
