Malaysia

As Malaysia is a politically stable country with well-developed infrastructure and a common language of English among its nationals, there are fewer hurdles for Japanese companies to overcome in expanding their business in Malaysia compared with certain other ASEAN countries, as evidenced by the current number of Japanese companies operating in Malaysia. This is further supported by the fact that Malaysian GDP per capita is the third highest among the ASEAN countries, following Singapore and Brunei, and is still growing. It is expected that not only the manufacturing sector, but also non-manufacturing industries such as IT and hospitality, will expand their business operations in Malaysia. AMT has gained invaluable knowledge and experience in Malaysian transactions and practices through seconding our lawyers to leading Malaysian firms and accepting Malaysian lawyers from these same firms. Furthermore, AMT enjoys strong relationships with many leading and reputable law firms in Malaysia and, thanks to these good relationships, we are able to work with the local law firm which is the most appropriate for any particular transaction according to the nature of the transaction. In addition, we have considerable experience in assisting Malaysian companies to invest in Japan through a variety of means, including capital investments and real estate acquisitions.
